The 2024 BRICS Summit is scheduled to take place in Kazan, Russia October 22-24. This post serves as a preview to this upcoming event. Plainly stated, BRICS bloc of nations is expanding and its new world economic system continues to emerge.
To refresh, the original BRICS bloc of Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa expanded earlier in January 2024 when Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran, Saudi Arabia, and United Arab Emirates joined BRICS, expanding the BRICS bloc of nations to 10 members.
So why are more and more nations seeking to join BRICS? In this article, Zimbabwe is found expressing an interest in joining BRICS because they see BRICS to be an opportunity to access new markets and investment opportunities.
Melha Rout Biel, executive director at the Institute for Strategic and Policy Studies, based in South Sudan, said BRICS expansion means a lot to the international system.
“The fact that many developing countries are joining in a big number is sending a signal that something might have been wrong with the current world system and that different ways of doing things must be found,” he said.
Something might have been wrong with the current world financial system? Do you mean the one in which the US Dollar is deemed the world’s reserve currency?
Our team perused the BRICS website and several other sources to see which nations might be joining BRICS at or after the summit convenes on 10/22/24.
Back in June, Russia indicated that Belarus wanted to join BRICS, while China was indicating that Cameroon was all in.
It would also appear that Thailand was taking steps to join BRICS around the same time.
And it certainly looks like Malaysia wants to join BRICS and can be included on the list of interested countries. They were expressing interest back in June as well.
This article from 8/19/24 indicates that Brazil is proposing Colombia as a potential new BRICS member.
This year’s BRICS summit will be held in the Russian Volga area city of Kazan on October 22-24. Russia assumed the organization’s rotating presidency on January 1, 2024, and plans to host a total of 200 various events by the end of the year.
Russia plans to host 200 events by the end of 2024? Wow, it sounds like Russia is quite busy leading the BRICS bloc of nations.
This article from 8/22/24 indicates that Azerbaijan has submitted an application to join BRICS.
In late August, and perhaps most notably, Palestine is being recognized as a country by BRICS and plans to apply to join BRICS.
And while BRICS is recognizing Palestine as a country, the UN Rights Commission reported all the way back in 2022 that Israel’s occupation of the Palestinian territory is illegal. The ICJ confirmed this very same thing in July 2024. The US MSM remains silent on this topic, while BRICS is welcoming Palestine’s application.
And yes, even the Taliban is requesting an invitation to attend the BRICS Summit. Per an article from Barron’s dated 9/25/24, Afghanistan wants to attend BRICS Summit, says the Taliban government.
And finally, in early September, Turkey announced that it would be submitting an application to join BRICS. Turkey would represent the first NATO country to join BRICS so this could potentially represent a significant shift.
So how many countries in total will be joining BRICS, you ask? Several sources would suggest that at least 40 countries have expressed an interest in joining BRICS.
39 Countries Ready To Join BRICS in 2024 (10/22/23)
The 39 countries that are ready to join BRICS in 2024 are Algeria, Afghanistan, Bahrain, Bangladesh, Belarus, Bolivia, Comoros, Cuba, Democratic Republic of Congo, Gabon, Honduras, Indonesia, Kazakhstan, Kuwait, Mexico, Morocco, Nicaragua, Nigeria, Pakistan, Palestine, Senegal, Sudan, Syria, Thailand, Tunisia, Turkey, Uruguay, Venezuela, Vietnam and Zimbabwe, among others.
Argentina was apparently approved for membership back in August 2023, but decided to opt out. It was even being reported by some sources that Argentina had joined BRICS, but that is apparently not 100% accurate.
With Argentina included on the list from above, we are talking about at least 40 more countries being added to BRICS.
So which country will be next up to announce that they will be applying to join soon?
Or better yet, which US state will be the first to join BRICS? Texas maybe? In the end, each US state is its own little Republic correct?
To refresh, Governor Abbot did meet with Prime Minister Modi from India back in March of 2018.
I am extremely grateful to Prime Minister Modi for welcoming me to his country and for the opportunity to discuss the meaningful relationship between Texas and India.
And it was reported in July 2023 that Governor Abbott met with French President Macron and Indian Prime Minister Modi to sign an “economic development statement of intent.”
Of course, we can only guess which US state will be the first to make the move to BRICS. And your guess is as good as ours.
Our team will go on record to state that the City of England, Vatican City, and the District of Columbia (Washington DC) will NOT be invited to join BRICS anytime soon. We can neither confirm or deny this claim, but we do make it boldly and with conviction.
There is one thing that we can confirm with certainty. The BRICS bloc of nations is now expanding at a rapid pace so we are all wise to pay close attention despite the US MSM deciding to take a pass on this exceptionally relevant news story.
“Red October” starts in just 5 days. The BRICS summit starts in just 26 days.
Buckle up - this next month is simply going to be red hot.
