Free speech is a two-way street. Writers write and readers read. Both are equally vital to a functioning republic that adheres to FREEDOM as its core principle. Why? An informed citizenry first requires writers to dig into stories and report verifiable facts, while it also requires readers to diligently test what they read. The net result is a FREE, PEACEFUL, and INFORMED society.
Our friends at “We The People” have correctly described this dynamic as watchfulness in the citizen. Staying informed is up to us - the citizens.
The Nebraska motto is: “The Salvation of the State is Watchfulness in the Citizen.”
We can only pay close attention and remain watchful as citizens when we are informed. Simply put, free speech is vital to a functioning republic, while censorship poses a major threat.
As we prepare to celebrate Thanksgiving 2023, our team is humbled to share our 55th post on this platform. Our voice at The Fruited Plain does not move mountains, nor is it tremendously loud or incredibly convincing. However, it is heard!
It is heard by you, our subscriber.
And in all of that, free speech remains alive and well and our citizenry, God willing, is more informed. For these reasons, we are especially THANKFUL when our subscribers share our posts or encourage a friend to subscribe. When you share The Fruited Plain or another informative substack with one other person, whether it be today or some time this holiday season or next year, it brings great joy to our “Maha Collective” of citizen journalists.
Plainly stated, we see our organizational structure coming together.
Happy Thanksgiving to you! May God grant peace and bring joy to you and your families, both now and in the extraordinary new year that lies ahead.
“Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.” 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 (NIV)
