GTMO Unveiled: Trump’s Memo, National Sovereignty, and the Y.M.C.A. Connection
Calling All High Priority Criminal Aliens - You Must Come Ashore (YMCA)
Over the past five or six weeks, the US Naval Station at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba (GTMO) has begun to, rather quietly, take center stage. We are witnessing unprecedented transparency and public access to this US military prison, established primarily to detain terrorism suspects and illegal enemy combatants. As a result of President Donald J. Trump’s executive order that was issued on 1/29/25, our “Maha Collective” team of citizen journalists at The Fruited Plain decided it was time to share a series of posts on GTMO with our subscribers. Please consider this part 1 in an introductory 3-part series on all things GTMO.
Technically, it might be more accurate to refer to the recent action taken by President Trump on 1/29/25 as a memorandum rather than an executive order. Here is how this historic memo reads.
I hereby direct the Secretary of Defense (Pete Hegseth) and the Secretary of Homeland Security (Kristi Noem) to take all appropriate actions to expand the Migrant Operations Center at Naval Station Guantanamo Bay to full capacity to provide additional detention space for high-priority criminal aliens unlawfully present in the United States, and to address attendant immigration enforcement needs identified by the Department of Defense and the Department of Homeland Security.
This memorandum is issued in order to halt the border invasion, dismantle criminal cartels, and restore national sovereignty.
There is that word “sovereignty” again. Do you find it remotely intriguing that the expansion of the GTMO Migrant Operations Center will somehow restore national sovereignty? We will let that question marinate, for the time being, while we take a quick peek into the GTMO archives.
Did you know that Guantánamo Bay, or more casually referred to as GITMO, GTMO, or the “Spa,” once showcased a building that was referred to as the “Y.M.C.A.” during its early years as a U.S. Naval Base in Cuba?
We are talking about a nickname for a building that was more commonly used back in the early 1900s.
Established in 1903, Naval Station Guantanamo Bay (NSGB) is the United States' oldest overseas military installation and the only one in a communist country.
To be clear, this reference to the “YMCA” does NOT appear to be directly related to the actual YMCA organization as we know it to be today, but it was an acronym used by military personnel. The letters with punctuation marks in between (Y.M.C.A.) apparently stood for this phrase.
You Must Come Ashore. (Y.M.C.A.)
For Navy personnel who enjoyed their time at sea on a ship, this was allegedly a tongue-in-cheek reminder that sailors were required to disembark from their ships and spend time on land while at the base.
It is good to remember that there is plenty of space at GTMO. The entire base covers 45 square miles on both the western and eastern banks of the bay. In addition, it is located in Cuba, or what one might refer to as a communist country. In other words, the grounds at GTMO are NOT on American soil.
The Guantanamo Bay detention camp, also known as GTMO (/ˈɡɪtmoʊ/ GIT-moh), GITMO (/ˈɡɪtmoʊ/ GIT-moh), or simply Guantanamo Bay, is a United States military prison within Naval Station Guantanamo Bay (NSGB), on the coast of Guantánamo Bay, Cuba.
Many have surmised that Trump’s endearing love for the Village People and the song “YMCA” is directly connected to this Y.M.C.A GTMO building reference. Of course, no one can confirm or deny this claim. However, our team cannot really think of any other reason, besides raw entertainment, that would remotely explain Trump repeatedly celebrating this song with his rally goers. The song YMCA has been celebrated befittingly after the majority of Trump’s rallies, or proclamation events. In addition, the Village People took center stage on the eve of Trump’s inauguration in January 2025.
Could it be that Trump’s exuberant rally attendees have been crying out for justice for months on end by shouting YMCA over and over? Have the MAGA patriots, and perhaps unbeknownst to the majority, been screaming out to the enemy combatants “You Must Come Ashore” (Y.M.C.A.) for months on end?
It does seem fitting that hundreds of thousands patriotic Americans have likely been crying out for justice to be served for months on end. It seems fitting that one of the first reporters on the ground at GTMO would send pictures from Camp Justice.
Lest we forget, GTMO is a military prison, established to detain terrorism suspects and "illegal enemy combatants."
Calling all high priority criminal aliens - you must come ashore. (Y.M.C.A.)
This concludes part of 1 of The Fruited Plain’s 3-part introductory series on GTMO.
