OMG - I'm "right here in River City - Omaha Ne - and have been observing this and frequently asking others about it - few are aware or interested! I was a Boy Scout, used to camp, fish, hunt, observe cloud formations and give them names. Contrails used to disappear not too far from behind the plane! Mostly not now. They spread out, remaining, and soon the sky is "overcast".
Weather reporting never mentions it. I just yesterday asked a retired Boeing employee and vet , with Bomber knowledge! Nope - probably the temperature and water vapor etc. from engines/fuel?? There ya go!
